The East Coast Cycle Challenge

Raising money for the blind youth of Australia

On Thursday 25 March 2004 The ECCC team handed over a cheque for $22222 to Blind Citizens Australia. What a fantastic effort! Thank you so very much to everyone who donated. An extra big thanks to the occupants and management of Metroplex who between them donated $7500 (over a third of the total raised!). We also could not have done without the tremendous generosity of Cannondale who sponsored us the use of a very slick and sexy tandem road bike.
Photos of the handing over ceremony are coming soon.

WE are now in the planning stages for next time. Yes! we are doing it all over again. This website will soon be revamped in preparation for our next adventure down the coast of New South Wales. But for now, we will leave it as it is.

The giant raffle consisting of 27 prizes has now been drawn. A big congratulations to all of the prize winners and a big thanks to everyone who supported us by buying raffle tickets.

In December 2003, twelve cyclists (including two blind riders) successfully cycled from Brisbane to Sydney with four goals in mind. They were:

  1. To raise in excess of $100,000 for Blind Citizens Australia (BCA);
  2. To focus community awareness on the services provided to the blind and vision impaired in Australia by BCA with particular attention on services provided to younger people;
  3. To promote health and exercise in a fun and accessible way for all people including people with disability; and
  4. To complete the challenging trip in eleven days.

Blind Citizens Australia is a registered charity and fully endorses the East Coast Cycle Challenge as a fund raising event being held on its behalf. BCA thanks you for any donation no matter how large or small and will be directing all money raised to youth related projects and programs. We invite you to read the BCA Letter of Support
